You're Beautiful
Since I don't really listen to the radio, I have to thank Dee for introducing me to You're Beautiful by James Blunt. As soon as I heard it, I was just drawn into it. And I knew I had to create a video.
The song is about love that you can't fulfill. And this was around the Berlinale time, and I desperately wanted to make a video about AR as a big celeb, constantly blinded by paparazzi flashes, who couldn't have the love that he wanted (yeah, behind the glass again). I shared my idea with Winky and we brainstormed like crazy. But I just couldn't find the footage that I needed to do that.
Then one day it hit me. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
Watch. And thanks, Winky.
As always, I live for your reaction.

...the only thing that gets me about that song is one minute he says he won't lose no sleep on that, cause he's got a plan....and then the next he just gives up and is all like "And I don't know what to do, cause I'll never be with you"
...i mean WOT HAPPENED TO THE PLAN MAN?!? *cough* idiota!
Very, very sad .. I liked the way you put the material together but those.. lines and squares for the transitions somehow stopped the flow and were quite annoying in my opinion.
I haven't seen the film yet but hopefully will do so soon - does he die in the end? ><
I'm going to be getting about 8,000 new transitions soon, so the next one should be better.
THIS is beautiful. The video is just a result.
I liked the effect because t gave the story a puzzle feeling. Like a mosaic. The pieces fitted perfctly but you had to work your way through the story. You combined the lyrics and the pictures beautifully and the begining made me shiver the first time I watched it. That cloudy/foggy image. Very artistic. I can`t get enough of these videos but careful, as I said, you`re setting up an unbelivably high standard. You`ll just have to overcome that each time you get some new stuff going on. ;)
As for the music, Dee, congratulations for your idea of introducing James Blunt to CatsPlay. He`s one of my favorite artists at the moment.
And thank you, CatsPlay for the "thank you" at the end of the song, you`re sweet as ever but as I already told you, the credit is entirly yours.
It`s nice to see that something you make and it comes out as beautiful as that, is the result of a somewhat collective effort, even if it is just and idea, an imageo r a song. Or a simple word.
~Hen vibes~ :D

I think you did a wonderful job!
Bravo!
I do like the box transitions. I (don't hit) think they're a tad bit overused in the middle, but I can also see why that was necessary (since I recall the frame cuts from the movie.
I watched the original video from your link, and didn't care for it, and don't really like the song all that much. I just think it's too sappy for everyday use. Perfect for this video collation of yours, though. I like it in the context of YOUR video, but wouldn't care for it otherwise.
Re: box transitions/overused, yeah, but I had this need for 'consistency'. I could not force myself to NOT use the transition on certain cuts once I started using it.
I'd be interested in understanding what transitions and scene choices that you found chilling and magical, if you don't mind. The process of selecting the scenes and then formulating the movie is an interesting exercise.
I didn't mean to say that your very essence was 'perfectionist', but that it was certainly a quality that you possess that someone else does not possess more of (specifically, the object of our affections.) I'm sure Moro is more than a writer, and Jen is more than just self-analyzing, and you are more than the sum of your precision. Just that those are outstanding features you all possess which are more highly tuned than is found in others, even, ** gasp **, our hero.
I'll taking my mother out to a local theatre production tonight, and when I get home, I'd be more than happy to go over precisely the transitions and frames. It'll be late. But I'd like to.
As far as overuse, in the middle in one of the apartment scene, where they cut between her face and his, and I see that you've used your transitional effect between these cuts. I'm not sure you could do it any differently, unless you decided to let the frame cuts occur without the effect.
Cripes! I don't even have a clue how you do all this stuff!
You mean in the scene when he is about to kiss her, and fingering her peals, or somewhere else? Please don't feel obligated to critique. But if you will enjoy it, I'd welcome it.
Love is pure (big sweet smile)
Soft shots of stella (saw an angel)
At table (with another man)
Pulls her up to dance (I've got a plan)
Stella looks at self in mirror (saw your face)
PL sitting alone cover with jacket (don't know what to do)
Only think I'd do differently - in the second repeat of the chorus -
the cut to PL writing (don't know what to do), the cut from Stella is really fast and sort of out of pace with the rest of the video. I would have just gone straight from (in a crowded place) to "argument scene" at (don't know what to do) IF there is enough time in that scene to do so.
It's a gorgeous shot of him, and hard to leave out, but the cut is just so fast.
Upon re-viewing, I change my mind, I DON'T think the box transitions are overused in the middle, and I like them a lot.
The ending is perfect.
You do good work!
Thank you for taking the time to tell me your thoughts and favorites. I'm in complete agreement on all of those favorite moments. I also like the transition at the end from the closeup on his face of realization to him standing at the end of the pier. I like the impact of that one.
I'm not quite seeing the cut you referenced as that out of pace.....maybe I could have held a bit longer on her on the stage and a bit less time on him with the letter, but I felt the letter scene was a part of the storyline I had in my head.
I had qualms about lingering too long on the kiss scene and its buildup, but ended up leaving it. And I think I cut away just a bit too quickly from the kiss itself.
A lot of this is just a matter of how much time I allow myself to invest in these things!
The next video I have planned is something completely different - kind of off the beaten path -- if I can get it to work out!
Yep - I thought those were some beautiful choices and the ending is lovely.
Can't wait to see what comes next. :D
I look forward to seeing you on MTV one day;)
And Fantasteek, please don't misunderstand the point of my comment... I am not in the least complaining that you didn't care for the box transitions.
I wish I were a perfectionist. If something goes wrong I tend to give up! One thing I hate doing is going back to something to change it. I do sometimes take a long time to do something but once it is done I rarely want to re-do it even if I can see it needs doing; I'd rather start something completely different.
Of course, you also used my favorite bit of the whole movie, when she refuses to dance and he turns up the corners of his mouth and pulls her into the dance.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

By the way, just a general comment, everyone should at least take a look at the wallpaper I created even if they don't plan to use it. The glowing effect on the large version is really stunningly beautiful. (And AR's face is really big, too.)
Also, j'adore my HK treats! Merci beaucoup! They are adorable!
By the way, as I just forced Ishamael's hand *gloat*, I believe it is your turn for Mornington Crescent. You'd better double check the order as you don't want to be forced to take the exclusionary bonus turn, do you? *smirk*

You guys playing Mornington Crescent??? I thought that was just a Brit thing! It was decades before my husband and I found out the rules!!;)))))))
Yes, there is a game in progress at Moro's place. I have to admit I have no idea whatsoever what I am doing!
